Not your run-of-the-mill baby gift- and I'm so glad!

My mom and dad like to give us a special baby gift each time we give them a new grandchild.  I don't know if I can list all of them, but for the first few kids they were buying us designer baby furniture (that has stood the test of time, by the way).  Now that we have 6 children, we already have all the big ticket baby items, but my parents wanted to give Baby Calvin something special that would survive his toddler years.  My parents love books as much as we do (see where I get it), so they decided to give us a collection of books for Calvin's baby gift.  We decided on the R.M. Ballantyne books.

I know he doesn't look terribly interested in them yet, but that will change.  Now to clear off another bookshelf somewhere.

You're doing great losing your baby weight! I love it when clothes fit right, too.

  2. I love practical gifts! You have wise parents.

I also think your idea about a family trip instead of a bunch of gifts is a great Christmas present!

I have been offline for a few days.....just busy with homeschool, housework, laundry, cooking.....etc....and I don't have a newborn! :) He sure is growing!

I read your post about math. I have always used Horizons math until 5th or 6th grade. It is waaaayyyy harder than TT, but it only goes through the 6th grade. My oldest used Horizons until 7th grade, and then did TT 7. The entire year was a review, but I did not mind because the previous math was so hard. My second child switched to TT in 6th grade. Another year of review. I put 3rd child in TT in 5th grade. Too soon. It really was too easy. So with the 4th and 5th children I will put them in TT in either 6th or 7th grade. Olivia is currently doing geometry.

I love audio books! I am glad that you found many that you can use.

    Have a great day!

I'm an on-the-run mom to 6 kids who studied and taught exercise science in a previous life. I love all things running, nutrition, and health-related. I usually run at zero dark thirty in the morning and am often quite hungry before, during, and after my run, but I live a rich, full, blessed life with my children, family, and friends. My faith in God is my anchor, and looking to Him and His promises allows me to live fully even when life circumstances are difficult. While running gives me an appetite, my desire is to hunger and thirst for righteousness more than for physical food.
