What is it about pregnancy and moving furniture?

What is it about pregnancy and moving furniture? Logic would dictate they be mutually exclusive, but somehow I always find myself first on one end of a sofa then on the other end alternatively pushing and pulling at this stage of pregnancy. You wouldn't think nesting would spill over into the living room. And why would I urgently need to rearrange the entire contents of my living room at 11 o'clock at night while Big D is sleeping? It completely defies logic, I know.

(The brown leather chair above is new to this location.)

I think it may have something to do with two blue chairs I've had my eye on for some time. They've been in different rooms of my mom's house for the last 25 years or so. Most recently they've resided in the guest bedroom, decorated for and used by Monk when he stays with my folks. Their upholstry is a little faded from the years, but they're down and extremely comfortable and well-built. Each time I've mentioned to my mom that they're looking a little worn, she's caught on to me immediately and defensively asserted that I'm not getting her chairs! As Providence would have it, my dad has decided before he can retire he needs a home office in addition to his study and basement, so guess what? They're converting the guest bedroom into a home office and my mom has to get rid of the blue chairs. So while I've stayed busy doing other things lately, such as sorting Legos, in the back of my mind I've been trying to think of where in our house I could fit those two blue chairs. Wouldn't you know it would come to me at 11 o'clock at night? And of course one thing leads to another when you're rearranging furniture. Making space in one room for the blue chairs required moving furniture out of that room and into the living room.

(The sofa and loveseat traded places.)

I couldn't wait to ask Big D what he thought of my improvisations this morning, but he didn't quite share my enthusiasm. I think his exact words were, " Don't you think it's a little much?". A little much? Five chairs, 3 ottomans, a sofa, and a loveseat in one living room? I don't know where he'd get that idea! Anyway, I'm happy with it and Big D says it's my living room and he's happy if I'm happy. Wise man:). (I'm sure this isn't related to Big D's aversion to moving furniture at all!) And I bet my Bible study ladies will be happy with it, too. I'm always trying to think of ways to expand the comfortable seating in the living room for our Bible study nights. I think this has worked out perfectly. What do you think? Overkill or comfortable?

(The plaid chair and ottoman were moved in to make space for the blue chairs.)

And I'm not even going to get started on my recent picture rearranging... Hopefully we'll never move. I shutter to think of having to fill all those holes in the wall.

  1. Comfy. Like your style. Pregnancy, moving furniture, nesting (a whole house, be glad you don't rent:)...it all goes together!

  2. hahaha I can totally see that possible in our house. Although it's my husband who re-arranges furniture, and it's NOT pregnancy induced. He does it when he is stressed. It helps :)

I'm an on-the-run mom to 6 kids who studied and taught exercise science in a previous life. I love all things running, nutrition, and health-related. I usually run at zero dark thirty in the morning and am often quite hungry before, during, and after my run, but I live a rich, full, blessed life with my children, family, and friends. My faith in God is my anchor, and looking to Him and His promises allows me to live fully even when life circumstances are difficult. While running gives me an appetite, my desire is to hunger and thirst for righteousness more than for physical food.
